eLABS

eLABS

Why

Laboratory value chains in low resource settings often rely on paper-based processes and fragmented Laboratory Information Systems. This results in  bottlenecks and inefficiencies, ultimately delaying laboratory results being actioned by healthcare workers. eLABS provides near real time visibility into all transactions within the laboratory value chain, including facilities, couriers, laboratories and management levels. This supports improved accountability, efficient performance and productivity management, process optimisation and ultimately demonstrated reduced turn-around-time, reduced sample rejection rates, and improved service responsiveness.

What

eLABS consists of a mobile and web-based application and analytics, provided as a managed service on behalf of Wits Health Consortium. Facility healthcare workers use eLABS mobile to submit samples for pick-up and processing, couriers use it to track logistics and temperature in transit, and laboratories use it to transmit electronic results directly to healthcare workers. Information is linked to individual samples and patients using barcodes and efficient master data management. Existing Laboratory Information Systems can be integrated with eLABS to reduce fragmentation and improve return on existing investments. Direct, targeted patient messaging is also available after patients are enrolled into programmes.

Where

eLABS is currently used on a daily basis in Zambia and South Africa, with more countries in the pipeline.
