eVuna is a Mezzanine-powered digital tool aimed at supporting smallholder farmers in Africa. The eVuna platform connects farmers to information, agricultural inputs, credit and buyers, subsequently facilitating increased productivity, revenue and resilience. eVuna as a digital marketplace, aims to reduce risk for enterprises and financial service providers when interacting with smallholder farmers.
Why
Food insecurity in Africa is a serious concern. Mezzanine has a mission to create productive societies by developing digital tools to solve large-scale African issues. The eVuna platform was developed as a means to ensure that African smallholder farmers are adequately supported and have access to essential agricultural inputs.
It is a critical time to be involved in Africa’s digital evolution. This continent is unique in its ability to leapfrog previous revolutions and take a leading position in making the invisible visible and thus creating value for all market participants from farm to fork.

What
Agriculture is a critically important sector in Africa. It is responsible for ⅕ of the continent’s GDP and almost 60% of employment. Importantly, some 250 million smallholder and subsistence farmers effectively drive food security in most African nations. Yet, probably less than 15% of these farmers have reliable access to information, markets and input credit, which can significantly increase productivity, yields and income. These farmers also face the global challenges of climate change, water scarcity, crop and livestock disease and post-harvest losses.
Mezzanine’s eVuna digital platform has the capacity to connect farmers in the most rural parts of Africa to a range of service and product providers, including input finance, buyers and insurers that are ordinarily faced with challenges in engaging and trading with this segment at scale.
