Virtual wheeling is a financial mechanism that facilitates the sale and delivery of electricity from Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to end-users via an existing transmission or distribution network. This innovative solution allows businesses to access renewable energy without needing a direct connection to the generator, resulting in cost savings, enhanced energy security, and a reduced carbon footprint.
Traditionally, wheeling referred to the transfer of privately generated energy from the point of generation, e.g. a solar farm in the Northern Cape, to an Eskom-connected high-voltage consumer in a different geographical location. However, there are practical and contractual challenges in leveraging traditional wheeling at a scale to mitigate the current energy crisis.
Mezzanine’s Virtual Wheeling Platform (VWP) is a digital tool for collecting, aggregating, accounting, processing, and reporting Time of Use (ToU) data for energy generation and consumption. This data is necessary for Eskom to calculate the Buyer’s Wheeled Energy Refund (WER).
Talk to us to ensure you meet the Buyer’s contractual obligations stipulated in the Eskom Virtual Wheeling Agreement to claim your monthly refunds.
